What makes Buff City Soap different?
Frustrated by commercial soaps’ harsh chemicals, detergents, and animal fats, we set out to create a better way! Buff City Soap — delightfully scented plant-based soaps, handmade daily, in each of our local Soap Makeries.
We're on a mission to create handmade products that are free of harsh chemicals and full of nourishing plant-based goodness. We take tremendous pride in handcrafting each and every bar of soap in our Soap Makery. Each one is truly unique. 1 of 1. Just like you! Our Makers are whipping up delightfully fragrant creations to share with you no matter how you choose to shop: online or in our Soap Makeries.
Are your Makeries locally-owned and operated?
While we do have a handful of corporate-owned Makeries, the majority of our stores are locally-owned and independently-operated by our network of franchisees.
ONLINE ORDERS, SHIPPING & RETURNS
When can I expect to receive my order?
We typically ship 2-3 business days after we receive your order, however during busy periods fulfillment can take a little bit longer. Depending on where you live in the United States, you can expect to have your order delivered to you in 5-7 business days after your order has shipped.
How do I track my order?
Go to your Account page and click on the order you're interested in tracking. Once we ship your order, we'll also send you an e-mail with your tracking information so you'll have it on hand. If your order shipped very recently, please allow up to 24 hours for the tracking number to update.
How do I return my order?
Due to the hygienic nature of our products, we cannot accept physical returns or exchanges.

- If you made an In-Store purchase at one of our Makeries, please contact the Makery directly, as they can assist you with a refund or exchange of your product. You can find the contact information for the Makery at which you purchased here.

If you placed your order online (www.buffcitysoap.com), please inspect your order upon reception and contact us here within 30 days if the item is defective, damaged or if you receive the wrong item. We will do our best to assist in a resolution to your issue!
- Photos of the package and damaged product are required - Please be sure to include those when contacting our team for a faster resolution.
- If the package has been delivered to the correct address, but the package is stolen from the delivery location, Buff City Soap is not responsible for replacing or refunding this package.
- If you paid a shipping charge on your original order, shipping charges are not refundable.

If you placed a Buy Online Pickup in Store order, please contact the Makery you are picking up the order from, for assistance with your order or to inquire about a refund or exchange.

Incorrect Address Entry:
- Please ensure that you are double-checking that your shipping information (address, unit, zip code etc.) is correct before completing checkout – as no alterations can be made once an order is placed.
- Buff City Soap is not responsible for items delivered to an incorrect address due to guest or an autofill error, a refund or replacement will not be issued.
Where does Buff City Soap ship to?
Buff City Soap can ship to virtually any address in the mainland United States. Note that there are restrictions on some products depending on the time of the year. For example, we cannot ship Body Butters and Lotion Bars during the summer/warmer months because they will melt. Also, some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.
What is the shipping rate for orders?
Our standard shipping rate is a flat rate of $9.99.

What happens when I enter my address incorrectly?
We kindly remind customers to double-check their shipping address before completing their order. Buff City Soap is not responsible for items delivered to an incorrect address due to guest error. Please ensure the accuracy of your shipping details to avoid any inconvenience.
Buy Online, Pickup in-Store
What is Buy Online, Pick Up in Store?
Buy Online, Pick Up in Store allows you to shop for products online and then pick them up at a designated store location. It’s a convenient way to get your items faster and avoid shipping fees.
What do I need to bring to pick up my order?
Please bring the following to pick up your order:
- A valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or passport)
- The order confirmation email
How do I place a pickup order?
- Shop Online: Browse our website and select the items you wish to purchase. Choose the “Pick Up in Store” option at checkout.
- Confirmation: You will receive an email confirmation when your order is ready for pickup. Please wait for order ready notification prior to going to the store
- Pick Up: Visit the store location specified in your confirmation. Bring a valid ID and your order confirmation email/text to collect your items.
How do I choose the store for pickup?
During the checkout process, you’ll be prompted to select a store location from a list of nearby stores that offer Buy Online, Pick Up in Store. Choose the one that is most convenient for you.
Can I apply discounts or promotions to my pickup items?
- Discounts and promotions can be applied to eligible items in your pickup orders.
- Buy online pickup in store orders are not eligible for earning loyalty/rewards points at this time.
- Discounts are subject to change and terms & conditions apply.
Do you offer price matching for items in my pickup order?
Items are sold as priced online at time of purchase, price matching or adjustments are not applicable.
Can I change or cancel my pickup order after its made?
Once an order is placed, changes or cancellations are generally not possible. However, if you need to cancel your order, please contact the store promptly for assistance.
Can I set up substitutions for my pickup order?
Buff City Soap does not currently offer substitutions for items within your pickup order.
When will I be charged for my pickup order?
You will be charged for your order at the time the order is placed.
When will my pickup order be ready for me to pick up?
Pickup orders placed before 2pm CST local time will be ready same day, orders placed after 2pm CST local time will be ready the next day. You will receive a notification when your order is prepared and waiting for you.
Can I switch between delivery and pickup after my order is made?
Once an order is placed, you cannot make any changes to it. Please contact the store you placed the order at, and they can cancel the order for you.
How will I receive order status notifications for my pickup order?
Order status notifications will be sent to the email address used to place your order
Why was my pickup order canceled?
If your pickup order is not picked up with in the established time frame (4 days), it is subject to cancellation.
If the store is unable to fulfill your requested items, your order is subject to cancellation.
You will be refunded to the original payment method within 5-7 business days.
What happens if I don’t pick up my order?
If you do not pick up your order within the established time frame (4 days), your order will be cancelled, and you will be refunded to the original payment method within 5-7 business days.
How long will a store hold my pickup order?
A store will hold your order for up to 4 days from the time of ordering. On the morning of the 5th day, your order is cancelled.
Where do I park to pickup my order?
Parking varies by location – stores do not have identified parking spaces for pick up orders.
Where’s the receipt for my pickup order?
Your receipt for your order is sent via email to the email address used to place your order – it also contains your order confirmation information and pick up details
What if one of my items is on sale or priced differently in-store?
Purchases on Non-Sale Days
To take advantage of the new sale price, you will need to cancel your Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS) order and re-order in store.
Purchases on Sale Days
If you made a purchase during a sale, we cannot add any additional items to your order.
To purchase more items at the sale price, you will need to complete a new transaction in-store.
Can I customize an unscented product in my order when I pick it up?
Please contact the Makery you are picking up the order from to inquire about a customization/exchange.

Can I return my pickup order?
Due to the nature of our products, we do not currently accept returns – however, you may work with the location you picked up your order for should there be a damaged or incorrect item within your order you need assistance in exchanging.

Yes, someone else can pick up your order on your behalf. They will need to bring:

How is the Wax Melts beeswax sourced?
The beeswax we use for our Wax Melts is refined from honeycombs.
Is your palm oil sustainable?
We are committed to using cruelty-free ingredients in our products. Our palm oil is sourced from RSPO – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
How are fragrance oils used in your products?
Our fragrances are a unique blend of both synthetic and essential oils developed in accordance with the most recent International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards. They are free of parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde-containing or forming ingredients and will leave you smelling wonderful.
What is the difference between fragrance oil and essential oils?
Essential oils are natural oils extracted from various areas from plants (roots, flowers, buds, etc.). Fragrance oils are made up of multiple ingredients that can be both naturally and synthetically derived. Our products are formulated using fragrance oils, which are developed in accordance with the most recent International Fragrance Association (IFRA) standards. These standards are based on safety recommendations made by an expert scientific advisory committee through review of the most recent data available from the Research Institute of Fragrance Materials.
What ingredients are in your fragrance?

What is washing powder?
Washing powder is sodium carbonate.
Why do you use Mica in your products?
We use mica in our products to as a colorant to add shimmer/sparkle.
Are your products safe for septic systems?
Our products have not been tested for septic tank usage. If you have a specific product in mind, we will happily provide you with an ingredient listing that you can review with your local septic tank provider for safety.

What are your wax melts made from?
Our Wax Melts are made from beeswax, coconut oil, and your favorite Buff city Soap scents.
How long should I warm the Wax Melts?
Wax Melts can be warmed all day but will lose intensity over time. When you notice intensity is fading, add another cube or clean out the warmer and start fresh!
Are the Wax Melts "handmade daily?"
Yes! These are handmade daily in our stores.
Are Wax Melts customizable?
As we develop, more fragrances will be added! You can customize Wax Melts at home by mixing scents.
Can I mix scents into the same wax warmer?
Yes! Mix and match the scents to create your favorite combination.
How long will one Wax Melts cube last?
It will vary depending on fragrance intensity in the scent you choose and how hot your warmer is.
How many loads of laundry can I get from one tub of Laundry Soap?
At the recommended 2tbsp per load, it’s 30 loads.
How much fragrance oil can I put in my Laundry Soap?
Without getting too much into the “science” of fragrances, our recipes are designed to meet all compliance guidelines determined by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). The IFRA gives regulatory direction over 11 categories of household/beauty products and specifically how much fragrance can be used in a specific product - the exact term is “Fragrance Load.” We have determined that capping our fragrances at 2oz. per 32oz. of Laundry Soap keeps us within all IFRA guidelines and minimizes the chance of a guest having potential skin irritation or staining of clothes/household textiles.
Is the Laundry Soap safe for moisture-wicking fabrics/athletic wear?
Yes. Our Laundry Soap is free from the polymers that block wicking actions.
How long do your candles last?
As long as you keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch before relighting and burn them for a maximum of 4 hours at a time, our candles last approximately 45-50 hours.
What are your candles made of?
Our candles are made of a soy/paraffin blend.
What are your candle wicks made of? Do they contain lead?
Our candle wicks are lead free and made of a rayon blend or rayon/cotton.
Why do you have a soy blend candle vs. all soy candle?
Our candles are made of a soy blend to provide the optimal experience with burn and fragrance performance. Soy blend wax is able to hold a higher fragrance load compared to an all-soy wax candle, which allows the fragrance to last throughout the life of the candle.
Are your soaps antibacterial?
Our soaps are not classified as antibacterial as we do not add additional antibacterial ingredients. However, proper hand washing physically removes bacteria, dirt, and oil from your hands, so the additional antibacterial additives are typically not necessary outside of a medical setting.
What should I do if my liquid laundry soap arrives frozen?
Unfortunately, freezing can happen during transit. The quality and effectiveness of the product will not be affected, whether it has fragrance or not. Simply allow the soap to thaw naturally at room temperature, gently shake once it's fully thawed, and then it's ready to use.
I have sensitive skin — are your products hypoallergenic?
Our personal care products are tested and evaluated for the safety of our consumers. While our products are reviewed for safety, we cannot guarantee that they are hypoallergenic. Please review the ingredient listing prior to use.
OUR SAFETY STANDARDS
Do your Wax Melts work in any warmer? Do you sell wax warmers?
We do not sell wax warmers. Our Wax Melts will work in any UL-listed electric warmer. UL-listed means it has passed safety certification and is safe to use in your home.
What safety standards does Buff City Soap adhere to?
As a values-based organization, the safety and overall experience of our customers is our number one priority. Our personal care, candle and laundry products are tested and evaluated for the safety of our consumers and comply with all applicable industry and regulatory standards. When used as directed, our products can be enjoyed with confidence by all consumers.

Does Buff City Soap test on animals?
Buff City Soap does not test its products on animals. We provide instructions for use and other helpful information on the product label.
Why do you use colorants in your products? Are they safe?
Our personal care, candle and laundry products are tested and evaluated for safety before we market the products to consumers. The colorants used in our products are FD&C and D&C approved colorants. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has assessed the safety of these colorants as a color additive in food, drug, and cosmetic applications may be safely used in cosmetics.
